Lyla's First Birthday, One Year of Pearls // First Birthday Portraits // St Charles, IL Photographer

Before my daughter was born I bought this beautiful headband for her. I then took photos of her wearing it with pearls for a sweet vintage look. I wanted to do it in three parts: newborn, 6 months and 1 year. The 1 year was pretty difficult because she had no desire to sit still for photos, but I still like how they came out :)

For my daughter's first birthday I decided that I wanted to enough photoshoots with her to post one on Facebook each day for a week. I had so many ideas that I wanted to do with her and I didn't want to miss anything!

So for her first photo session, I wanted her to be sitting next to a photo I took of her when she was one week old. She was laying on a pink and white blanket so I put her in a pink and white dress. I even found a frame that nearly matched the dress! I took her out to Delnor Woods Park. There is a really pretty red bench out there that I knew I wanted her to sit on.

I love this image in particular because her right arm is up similar to the way it was in her newborn photo.

This photo session with my daughter was short, but very special. The day I was in labor with her my mother-in-law, Gail, came to my room with this little pink bear she bought in the gift shop. When you push it's belly it plays the "Happy Birthday" song and has a little Happy Birthday ribbon around its neck. Sadly, Gail passed away after a very brief battle with cancer when my daughter was only 9 months old. Lyla was her only grand child and they really loved each other. She always brought a smile to Gail's face, even on her worst days at the end. Lyla reaching the milestone of 1 year old was met with both joy and sadness at the fact that Gail wasn't there to celebrate with us. I wanted to photograph Lyla with this little bear so that it was like Gail was still a part of the celebration.
