Milestone Session General Outline
Every child is different, every session is different, but this is a general workflow that I aim to accomplish during each Milestone Session
You may choose 1 or 2 backdrop options for your session. Most people choose 2, but if you only choose 1 I will incorporate more props and poses with the 1 backdrop.
If you chose a neutral backdrop and a more festive/themed backdrop, I will usually start with the neutral backdrop first. I switch it up as needed if the child is already dressed for one backdrop or the other. I will have 3 props pulled out and ready to go: generally something to sit in (basket or crate), something to sit on (chair), and something to stand with (ladder). Obviously this gets switched up for younger babies that can't stand, or older children that can't fit into a basket, but I still aim for 3 props for variety. I also get some simple shots without props. I take pulled back shots (as seen in the examples) as well as closeups and some detail shots.
After we are finished with the first backdrop, I will ask if you prefer the first or second outfit your child will be wearing to be used for the top-down shots on white fur. I do these with all babies 1 year and under, and try to do them with older children as well if they will lay down for me :)
After the fur shots, we move to the second backdrop. I try to get through another 3 props as well as a shot without props, just like the with the first backdrop. Giving the child new prop options to explore usually helps get to the end of the session, since it doesn't take long for kiddos to get bored and want to run around the studio instead :) I keep the session moving along pretty quickly for the same reason!
So that is the general idea that I have in mind for each session! Sometimes we don't get through all 3 props on each side, and some props just end up not working with certain kids, and that's ok! I'll pivot and take their lead as needed. Either way, I'll do my very best to get a variety of poses and looks for each backdrop so you have a solid amount of choices filling your gallery!
