I set up this mini session at Ferson Creek Fen in St. Charles. I wanted a nice brown prairie backdrop to go with my rustic snowflakes. I made each snowflake by hand from branches I cut from a tree in our backyard. We were even lucky enough to get the first real snowfall of the year to go with our snowflake session! I just wish I wasn't so cold :) I've been looking forward to doing to doing Christmas-themed sessions for awhile now! I tried holding holiday mini sessions back in mid-September (when it was nice and warm out!) but I didn't get many takers. The frigid 30 degree weather we had for these sessions was a reminder of exactly why I did that haha. Even though I was quite cold (and so were my clients, especially the littlest ones!) I had a lot of fun with it and captured some great images :) 15 minute sessions were just about right, any more than that and I don't think the kids would have stood for it!
I held the Saturday session at Lee's Trees in Lily Lake. I had never been there, but decided to contact the owner on the recommendation of a friend. What a great little place it turned out to be! It's located in a beautiful rural area surrounded by farms, just off of route 47. I saw some beautiful trees too, so I definitely recommend it if you want to head a little off the beaten path to get your tree this year! I set up 3 little areas to use for the sessions. The first area included a blanket to sit on with a chest and presents off to one side. On the chest was a tray with milk, cookies, and a letter to Santa. For the second area I decorated one of the trees with some red and gold bulbs. The third area included my antique barrel chair with gold cushions. I had a lot of fun setting it all up. The only thing that was out of my control was all of the tags that were on the trees. But as you will see, a little photoshopping took care of those ;). So without further ado, here are some of the resulting photographs! |
